Alumni Establish Endowment Fund for Nebraska Council on Economic Education

University of Nebraska–Lincoln alumni David Dickinson and Karen McCluskey have donated $117,650 to create the Karen McCluskey Endowment Fund to support the Nebraska Council on Economic Education. The fund will provide $5,000 annually to K-12 teachers in Nebraska to enhance their economic and personal finance expertise. The couple’s gift aims to empower teachers to further their education and positively impact students’ lives for generations.

The Nebraska Council on Economic Education, housed in the university’s College of Business, focuses on teacher professional development, academic competitions, curriculum design, and in-school savings programs. The council aims to increase economic and financial literacy among youth and families in all 93 Nebraska counties.

High school business teacher Tanner Ellis was named the 2025 Mary Lynn Reiser Economic Educator of the Year and received a $1,000 cash award from the endowment fund. Governor Jim Pillen declared April Financial Awareness Month in Nebraska, recognizing the importance of financial literacy education in schools. The generous gift from Dickinson and McCluskey is part of the university’s campaign to support students, faculty, and research across Nebraska.
