Ukraine launched an overnight drone attack targeting Moscow and other Russian regions, destroying at least 12 drones according to Russian officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is pressuring the US to allow strikes on Russian military targets deep inside Russia. Russian forces killed civilians in Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, leading to a day of mourning in Kharkiv. Russia has gained control of the Kirove settlement in Donetsk, which they claim to have annexed. Russia also reported repelling Ukrainian attacks in the Kursk region. A Russian attack in Belgorod killed five people and injured 46, sparking a call from Russia’s foreign ministry for condemnation. Ukraine’s air defences shot down 24 drones launched by Russia. The US rejected a proposal to deploy American contractors to maintain military equipment in Ukraine. Discontent towards Russian President Vladimir Putin is growing, especially as Ukraine captures territory in the Kursk region. Nato believes it can overwhelm Russia, which is no longer as powerful as it was during the Soviet Union. Gabrielius Landsbergis, Lithuania’s foreign minister, says the invasion was not surprising to Baltic countries but the intensity was shocking.
