Nebraska State Patrol Welcomes New K9, Scooter, to Combat Tech Crimes
LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) has added a valuable asset to its crime-fighting efforts: a Labrador retriever named Scooter. At just 2 years old, Scooter is the only active police service dog in Nebraska trained specifically in electronics storage detection. This specialized skill allows him to identify a chemical found in devices such as computers and cell phones, enhancing the patrol’s capabilities in tackling serious crimes like child exploitation.
NSP Superintendent Col. Bryan Waugh expressed confidence in Scooter’s abilities, stating that he will be an "incredible asset" to the tech crimes unit. In addition to his law enforcement duties, Scooter has been trained as a therapy dog, allowing him to provide comfort in sensitive situations.
Scooter will also engage with the community, attending public events to educate children about online safety—an essential focus in today’s digital age. The Nebraska State Patrol looks forward to the contributions Scooter will make in improving public safety and enhancing community outreach initiatives.
