Gov. Pillen Celebrates Passage of Bill to Protect Against Foreign Adversaries

LINCOLN, NE – Governor Jim Pillen held a press conference today to celebrate the passage of LB644, a significant piece of legislation aimed at safeguarding Nebraska from foreign adversaries. Signed into law on June 4, LB644 introduces two crucial acts: the Foreign Adversary and Terrorist Agent Registration Act, and the Crush Transnational Repression in Nebraska Act. These acts will enhance transparency regarding foreign representatives in the state and impose reporting requirements to curb potential undue influence.

"In today’s world, accessing sensitive information has never been easier,” Gov. Pillen stated, emphasizing the importance of protecting the state’s infrastructure and assets from countries like Iran, China, and Russia. Lieutenant Governor Joe Kelly highlighted previous legislation, noting a consistent focus on national security in recent legislative sessions.

Michael Lucci, CEO of State Armor, commended Nebraska’s proactive stance, advocating resilience in facing global challenges. Major General Craig Strong underscored the need for awareness against modern threats, including cyber-attacks and drones.

The bill represents a bipartisan effort to ensure Nebraska’s security against foreign influences. For more information on the legislation, visit the Governor’s office website.
