Nebraska’s Dairy Industry Revitalized by New Processing Plant After 50 Years

Governor Pillen Celebrates Groundbreaking of New Milk Processing Facility in Seward

SEWARD, Neb. — Governor Jim Pillen, together with state and local leaders, celebrated the groundbreaking of a new milk processing facility in Seward, marking a pivotal moment for Nebraska’s dairy industry. The plant, spearheaded by DARI Processing, LLC—a fourth-generation dairy company owned by the Tuls family—aims to retain 30% of the state’s milk production for local processing, bolstering the local economy and creating jobs.

TJ Tuls, Co-Owner and CEO of DARI Processing, emphasized the project’s environmental benefits, stating that by processing milk locally, it will cut down on transportation miles, reduce fuel consumption, and lessen the carbon footprint. Governor Pillen hailed the facility’s significance, particularly during Dairy Month, noting it is the first processing plant to be built in over 50 years in Nebraska. He highlighted the necessity for local processing to enable Nebraska’s dairies to compete nationally and globally.

Pillen also underscored the value of family-owned businesses in Nebraska, reflecting on how they shape the community and economy. "95% of their culture in Nebraska is family-owned," he stated, promoting the importance of supporting local enterprises.
