Omaha Man’s Murder Conviction Upheld by Nebraska Supreme Court
OMAHA, Neb. – The Nebraska Supreme Court has denied the appeal of Aldrick Scott, convicted of murdering Omaha resident Cari Allen in 2022. Scott, from Topeka, Kansas, was found guilty in 2024 of first-degree murder, weapon use, and evidence tampering after prosecutors claimed he killed Allen in her home and subsequently buried her body in a shallow grave in Kansas.
During his trial, Scott claimed self-defense, reporting that he fled to Belize after the incident due to fear of repercussions. He was apprehended by Belizean authorities and extradited to Nebraska. In his appeal, Scott challenged the legitimacy of evidence obtained from his cell phone, which was confiscated following his arrest. He argued that this evidence should be excluded based on the Fourth Amendment.
However, the Supreme Court ruled that the exclusionary rule does not apply to searches conducted by foreign officials in their respective countries. The court also affirmed that sufficient evidence existed to support Scott’s convictions. Consequently, Scott has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, along with an additional 45 to 60 years for the other charges.
