ICE Operation Detains 76 in South Omaha; Community Reacts
Omaha, Neb. – A recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in South Omaha led to the detention of 76 individuals at Glenn Valley Foods, confirmed by the Department of Homeland Security. Local law enforcement blocked off several streets as ICE agents executed a federal search warrant linked to identity theft. Congressman Don Bacon’s office reported that agents arrived with a list of 97 individuals to verify. In addition, Omaha Together One Community highlighted similar operations at another local business, LALA, prompting many nearby establishments to temporarily close.
In response to the detentions, community members gathered for a protest, advocating for immigrant rights with signs reading “Omaha Doesn’t Run Without Immigrants.” Protesters criticized the operation as inhumane, labeling it the largest worksite enforcement action in Nebraska during the Trump administration.
In other news, Maurice McDonald, arrested for attempting to kidnap a young girl in North Omaha, is scheduled to appear in court today. Meanwhile, Creighton University will host a groundbreaking ceremony for new baseball and softball fields, and preparations for the College World Series are underway with the Arizona Wildcats as the first team to arrive.
