Gibson Welcomes New Huskers with Orientation and Traditions

University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s NSE Leader Fosters Connections for New Huskers

Lincoln, NE – As a New Student Enrollment (NSE) orientation leader, University of Nebraska–Lincoln senior Dani Gibson is passionate about guiding incoming students through their transition to campus life. Originally from Utah, Gibson experienced initial nerves upon arriving in Nebraska, but found that NSE helped her build a supportive community.

Since the NSE program started on May 29, Gibson has been sharing insights into UNL’s traditions and experiences that made her feel at home as an out-of-state student. “I grew up in the same city for 18 years, so I wanted to go somewhere new,” Gibson explained, reflecting on her adjustment to college life.

Gibson credits the NSE program with her success in making friends and feeling connected, stating, “It eased the tension enough to help me know that I wasn’t going to completely drown.” Now a forensic science major, she aims to pass on her knowledge and love for the university to new students.

With a focus on sharing small campus traditions—like high-fiving Archie’s foot—Gibson emphasizes their role in building a sense of belonging. As she prepares to welcome more Huskers, she is committed to helping students realize they are where they belong.
