Nebraska Softball Falls Short in Super Regional Showdown
Knoxville, TN – The Nebraska softball team concluded its season just one victory away from a trip to Oklahoma City, falling to No. 7 national seed Tennessee in Game Three of the Knoxville Super Regional, 1-0, on Sunday. With the victory, the Volunteers improve their season record to 45-15 and earn a spot in the Women’s College World Series, while the Huskers finish at 43-15.
The game’s lone run came from Tennessee’s Ella Dodge, who hit a crucial home run in the first inning against Nebraska pitcher Jordy Bahl. After that early excitement, both teams struggled to score, with Nebraska’s best opportunity arising in the fifth inning. The Huskers had runners on second and third with only one out but failed to capitalize. A strikeout followed, and although Ava Bredwell walked to load the bases, another strikeout ended the inning abruptly. This marked the only instance where Nebraska advanced a runner past first base throughout the game.
Bahl, who pitched every inning of the super regional, was solid despite the loss, allowing only one run on four hits, striking out four batters with no walks. On the other hand, Tennessee’s Karlyn Pickens, the SEC Pitcher of the Year, showcased her dominance, allowing just two hits, walking one, and striking out an impressive ten batters.
The defeat in Knoxville marks the end of a strong season for the Nebraska softball program, which showed resilience and skill throughout, ultimately falling just short of their championship aspirations.
