Severe Storm Causes Damage in Dix

Dix, NE – May 23, 2025, 5:30 PM MDT – A powerful storm swept through Dix Thursday night, leaving a trail of destruction with downed power lines, damaged trees, and bent signs. Storm warnings had been issued from central Colorado to the Nebraska Panhandle in anticipation of the severe weather.

Witnesses reported a significant thunderstorm that subsided only to be replaced by intense winds, followed by brief quiet spell before ramping up again. The storm’s winds caused damage not only in Dix but also impacted the Kimball area. The National Weather Service (NWS) and Nebraska Region 21 Emergency Management confirmed that a severe straight-line wind event was responsible for the damage, with estimated wind speeds reaching between 60 to 80 mph.

In response to the forecasted conditions, the NWS has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9 PM. This watch covers numerous counties in Nebraska, including Arthur, Banner, and Cheyenne, among others. Residents are urged to stay vigilant as conditions may remain hazardous throughout the evening.
