Douglas County Deputy Shooting: 18-Year-Old Arrested in Firearms Investigation
Douglas County, NE — An 18-year-old named Samuel Guy has been arrested in connection with a firearms investigation that led to a tragic deputy-involved shooting, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Geneva Ibrahim. The shooting occurred early Thursday morning when the Douglas County Sheriff’s Special Operations Group approached a vehicle near 48th and Pratt streets. While several occupants fled, Ibrahim remained in the driver’s seat and was shot by a deputy. Despite immediate medical assistance, he later succumbed to his injuries at Nebraska Medicine.
Ibrahim’s family, having immigrated from Somalia and recently celebrating his graduation, is grappling with the sudden loss of their eldest son. The deputy involved, a 12-year veteran, has been placed on administrative leave as the incident is under investigation, including a review of body camera footage.
While authorities linked Guy to one of the firearms found in the vehicle, they do not believe he was present during the shooting. The Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking information about other suspects involved in this case. The public can report tips to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office or Omaha Crime Stoppers.
