Traffic Fatalities in Nebraska Reach 20 in April 2025
LINCOLN, Neb. (NDOT Press Release) – In April 2025, Nebraska witnessed a tragic toll on its roadways, with 20 individuals killed in traffic accidents, based on data from the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT). The fatalities occurred across 19 distinct collisions, highlighting ongoing challenges regarding road safety.
Among the deceased, four vehicle occupants were not utilizing seatbelts, while seven were wearing them; the seatbelt status of four others remains unknown. Alarmingly, 14 of the fatalities occurred in rural areas, with incidents spread across various roadway types including one on the interstate, ten on highways, and nine on local roads. The grim statistics also included a pedestrian death and four motorcyclist fatalities.
In comparison, April 2024 recorded 24 traffic deaths. Notably, of the 56 vehicle occupants killed in 2025 up to this point, only 19 were wearing seatbelts, underscoring the critical importance of seatbelt usage in preventing fatalities.
As the NDOT continues to track traffic statistics, the organization urges all road users to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic regulations.
