Press Release: Nebraska Extension Invites Applications for Small Meat Processor Management Training Program

Nebraska Extension is now accepting applications for its 2025 Small Meat Processor Management Training Program, designed for small meat processing plants across the state and beyond. Taking place from September 7-13 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s East Campus, this program aims to enhance participants’ skills and industry knowledge through collaboration with fellow processors.

Participants will receive insight into improving business operations, financial management, regulatory compliance, and marketing strategies, among other key topics. The program includes a pre- and post-session virtual meeting and a required Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points certification.

Led by experts from the university’s Center for Agricultural Profitability and Meat Science, the initiative will allow owners, managers, and management-track employees from custom-exempt, federally inspected, and state-inspected facilities to learn from both university faculty and industry thought leaders.

A highlight of the training will include a dedicated tour of meat processing plants in eastern Nebraska, offering practical insights and inspiration. The program fee of $6,750 covers two participants, transportation, lodging, and meals. Interested parties must apply by June 7; details can be found on the Nebraska Center for Agricultural Profitability’s website.
