Lincoln, NE – Nebraska baseball capped off its regular season in style, defeating Purdue 14-2 in an eight-inning rubber match on Saturday. With this victory, the Cornhuskers (28-27, 15-15 B1G) not only showcased their hitting prowess but also secured a spot in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament.
The Cornhuskers set the tone early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second to take an 8-0 lead. Although Purdue (31-23, 11-19 B1G) managed to respond with a run in the third, Nebraska continued to dominate, ultimately invoking the mercy rule after a four-run eighth inning.
Highlighting the offensive effort, Will Jesske led the team with a stellar 4-for-5 performance, including a double. On the mound, six Nebraska pitchers combined for an impressive 12 strikeouts while limiting the Boilermakers to just six hits.
With this series win, Nebraska secured the No. 8 seed for the Big Ten Tournament, which starts Tuesday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha. The Huskers will face No. 12 seed Michigan State at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup against top-seed Oregon on Friday.
