Governor Pillen Promotes Cornhusker College Rodeo in Lincoln
Lincoln, NE — Governor Jim Pillen is back in the saddle to champion the Cornhusker College Rodeo, an annual event celebrating Nebraska’s ranching heritage. This year marks Pillen’s third involvement, and notably, his first horseback ride since a serious accident in December 2024, where he sustained seven broken ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and other injuries. "Most importantly for the kids today, they have a competition here in Lincoln," Pillen emphasized, urging everyone to attend the event scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
Established 70 years ago to honor Nebraska ranchers and promote agriculture, the rodeo holds a special place in the state’s culture. Reflecting on his recovery, Pillen expressed joy in rejoining the rodeo scene, stating, "It felt really good… being with these kids was just extraordinary."
In addition to his participation, the governor declared April 28th to May 3rd as Rodeo Week in Nebraska. Former Husker volleyball coach John Cook, a passionate supporter of the rodeo team, announced plans for a new training facility on East Campus, which will include an arena and horse stalls. Cook has also initiated the John Cook Team Roping Endowment for rodeo athlete scholarships.
