Pete Hegseth, Senior Adviser, Calls for Pentagon to Sever Ties with the Boy Scouts of America

A top adviser to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Tami Radabaugh, has recommended cutting ties with Scouting America, formerly known as the Boy Scouts, due to concerns that the organization has become too “woke.” While it is not yet clear where Hegseth stands on the issue, Radabaugh has urged the Pentagon to suspend its relationship with the group. This recommendation includes Hegseth not participating in a video for the organization. However, the Pentagon has not made a final decision on severing the relationship altogether or in part. Scouting America has a long history of collaboration with the U.S. military, including holding National Jamborees at military facilities and having scouts attend military academies. The organization does not receive funding from the Defense Department or other federal agencies. Additionally, the scouts have assisted with military recruiting efforts, with some recruits entering the Army with higher ranks based on scouting awards. Despite facing bankruptcy and legal challenges related to sexual abuse allegations, the organization has undergone changes to be more inclusive, including allowing girls to join. President Donald Trump praised the organization at a Jamboree in 2017, highlighting the importance of the scouts as leaders in their communities. Radabaugh, who advises Hegseth on external engagement, is a former Fox News producer and is concerned about the Boy Scouts losing their traditional values.
