Nebraska City is in search of grant funds for new sports complex

Nebraska City officials have approved an application for a $1.2 million grant from the Nebraska Game and Parks Land and Water Conservation grant program to help fund a proposed sports complex in the community. The city council is seeking state resources to cover at least a portion of the complex, which would include new soccer fields on land near the city’s transfer station. Mayor Bryan Bequette highlighted the need for multi-use fields and soccer fields, as the current soccer program is on private property that may soon be unavailable. The total cost of the project is estimated at $6 million, with the city looking for ways to reduce this cost. If the grant is approved, phase one of the sports complex, focused on building soccer fields, is expected to be completed in time for next spring’s soccer season. The state is set to announce grant awards in June, with hopes that Nebraska City will receive funding for the project.
