Many parts of the U.S. continue to face frigid temperatures and flooding as a major concern

Frigid temperatures continue to affect much of the United States, with 55 million people under frost and freeze alerts in parts of the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast. Temperatures are expected to be 10 to 25 degrees below average, leading to chilly weather over the next few days for areas east of the Mississippi River. The National Weather Service warns of cold temperatures near or below freezing, urging precautions to be taken. In New York, temperatures will be in the low to mid-40s, but the wind will make it feel much colder. Atlanta is also expecting cold temperatures with some areas possibly reaching freezing or near-freezing levels. This follows last week’s destructive storms that have left at least 24 people dead and major flooding concerns, with 20 river locations still in the major flood stage. Louisville, Kentucky, is experiencing one of the Top 10 flooding events in history, with the Ohio River reaching 35 feet and projected to crest at 37 feet. Other parts of the country may see scattered showers, thunderstorms, and light snow, with New England expecting snow on Tuesday and Florida expecting thunderstorms. Wednesday will bring more showers and storms to the Northeast and strong storms to the Tennessee Valley. Despite these weather challenges, most areas are expected to have relatively low-impact weather.
