KEARNEY, Neb. – Kearney claimed the first-ever Central Nebraska Pinnacle Bank Cup after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Lexington on Saturday. Kaden Slaymaker scored a header to put Kearney ahead, but Lexington’s Edin Lima Miranda responded with a goal to tie the game. Despite Lexington controlling the second half, they couldn’t break past Kearney’s goalkeeper Hayden Schwartz. After a scoreless overtime, the game went to penalty kicks, where Slaymaker and Lexington’s Jorge Zamora-Saenz both scored. Kearney took the lead after Schwartz saved a penalty from Miranda, but Lexington equalized once again after a goal from Alexis Arreago. Senior Drake Schwarz then scored the winning penalty kick for Kearney, securing the victory and tournament win. Sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Schwartz’s outstanding performance also played a crucial role in Kearney’s success.
