Valentine gears up to host state’s high school rodeo finals in the Panhandle

The Nebraska High School Rodeo Finals are returning to Valentine for the first time in nearly three decades. The small town in the Sandhills region will host the state’s top high school rodeo athletes in 2025 and 2026, drawing hundreds of visitors to the area. The event signals a departure from the longstanding location in Hastings. The Cherry County Ag Society is already making preparations to ensure the fairgrounds are ready for the rodeo, including adding new electrical hookups, improving water access, and updating the arena’s roping boxes. Plans are also in the works for a new bathhouse and improved Wi-Fi at the site. The association is calling for volunteers to help with the event, emphasizing the economic boost it will provide for Valentine as competitors and their families descend on the town. The return of the rodeo is expected to recreate the festive atmosphere seen at previous events in Valentine, with cowboys mingling with locals and exciting competitions drawing crowds to the area. Interested volunteers can contact the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association for more information.
