The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) located a suspect in a Denver homicide near Gothenburg after receiving information about a wanted individual traveling in a Nissan Rogue on Interstate 80. A trooper initiated a pursuit at around 9:25 a.m., leading to a 25-minute chase on rural roads that ended when the vehicle was stopped with stop sticks on Highway 30 east of Gothenburg.
Crisis negotiators were called to the scene when the driver and passenger refused to exit the vehicle, with the female passenger appearing to have a medical emergency. Despite administering Narcan, the passenger was pronounced dead at Gothenburg Health Hospital, while the driver, Augustine Vega of Colorado Springs, was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Authorities found at least one firearm in the vehicle, and Vega remains at Good Samaritan as of Sunday evening. The NSP is working with the Denver Police Department on the ongoing homicide investigation.
