Nebraska Football Icon Passes Away at 61 After Battle with Cancer


Longtime University of Nebraska football play-by-play announcer Greg Sharpe, who had been battling pancreatic cancer since April 2024, has passed away at the age of 61. Sharpe’s family announced his death, expressing gratitude for the support and love shown to him during his illness. Sharpe had been the voice of Husker football and baseball for 17 years, leaving a lasting legacy through the moments he narrated and the relationships he built. Nebraska’s Director of Athletics Troy Dannen paid tribute to Sharpe, describing him as an incredible person and a friend to everyone. Sharpe, who was named the 2024 Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year, leaves behind his wife, Amy, and three daughters, Emily, Campbell, and Taylor.
