Nebraska Medical Center celebrated National Donor Day by announcing record-breaking transplant numbers for 2024. The center performed 188 kidney transplants, 150 liver transplants, 17 lung transplants, and 41 heart transplants, making it the fourth busiest year. Nebraska Medicine is known for its living donor kidney exchange program, which has a high success rate compared to deceased donor transplants. In 2024, 59 transplants involved living donors, including 11-year-old Jailyn Mason from Houston, Texas, who received multiple organs in November.
Patients from 18 states come to Nebraska Medical Center for organ transplants, with the hospital being one of only 10 in the country that performs heart, intestinal, kidney, liver, lung, and pancreas transplants. The medical staff is praised for its exceptional care and dedication to patients, with Chief of Transplantation Surgery Alan Langnas highlighting the team’s commitment to creating lasting bonds with patients. The success of the transplant program has made Nebraska Medicine a top choice for patients across the region and nation.
