Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has appointed Jesse Bradley to lead both the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources and the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy in an effort to combine the two agencies. This move comes as Pillen aims to merge the two departments into the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment. The proposed merger, through Legislative Bill 317, would require approval from the Legislature and is set to take effect on July 1, pending passage.
Bradley, who has been with the Department of Natural Resources since 2006, is seen as highly qualified to lead the combined agencies due to his experience in water management. His appointment is part of Pillen’s initiative to improve water quantity and quality for future generations.
The proposal will be discussed at a public hearing before the Legislature’s Natural Resources Committee, chaired by State Sen. Tom Brandt. Pillen expressed confidence in Bradley’s abilities to lead the merged departments and continue efforts to protect the state’s water resources.
