Vance expresses his endorsement of rehiring DOGE staffer who resigned due to racist social media posts

Vice President JD Vance expressed support for rehiring a DOGE staff member, Marko Elez, who resigned after previous racist remarks he made online surfaced. Vance disagreed with Elez’s posts but believed they shouldn’t ruin his life. The Wall Street Journal reported Elez’s comments supporting racism and eugenics. Vance reposted a poll from Elon Musk asking if Elez should be brought back, advocating for giving the young staffer a second chance and firing him only if he is a bad fit for the team. The Journal reviewed Elez’s archived posts on a now-deleted account, showing racist statements like refusing to marry outside his ethnicity. Elez has not publicly commented on the situation.

Elez was part of Musk’s efforts to streamline the government workforce, which included hiring young people with little government experience. Another DOGE staffer, Gavin Kliger, was reported to have reposted content from a white nationalist, Nick Fuentes. Kliger did not respond to requests for comment. The Trump administration also sought to eliminate roles focused on social justice initiatives. Vance’s comments align with Musk’s mission of dismantling what he calls the radical-left shadow government. Despite the controversial hiring practices, Vance believes in giving young staffers a chance to prove themselves and only firing them if they are not a good fit for the team.
