Nebraska state senators urge federal delegation to probe Elon Musk’s political sway

A coalition of nine Nebraska state senators has raised concerns about Elon Musk’s role as a temporary special government employee, urging the state’s federal delegation to oppose what they see as “unprecedented government overreach.” In a letter sent Wednesday, the senators highlighted ethical, security, and constitutional issues regarding Musk’s involvement in federal agencies, including access to classified information and financial systems, without proper oversight.

Musk leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a temporary organization advising the Trump administration on government efficiency. The senators argue that his extensive business interests as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX create conflicts with the federal agencies he now helps oversee, raising concerns about transparency and accountability.

The senators also raised eyebrows at Musk’s $288 million in political contributions during the 2024 election, suggesting that his donations may have influenced his government influence. They are calling for a bipartisan effort to investigate any potential legal and ethical violations that may have occurred.

The letter was signed by Sens. Megan Hunt, John Cavanaugh, Machaela Cavanaugh, Terrell McKinney, George Dungan, Jane Raybould, Victor Rountree, Margo Juarez, and Ashlei Spivey. The senators are urging the federal delegation to stand against corruption and support investigations into Musk’s activities.
