The University of Nebraska Board of Regents has approved a new concessions provider for Husker sporting events, marking a significant change from the university handling the concessions previously. Aramark Sports and Entertainment will now take charge of the concessions, bringing in a $10 million capital infusion for modernizing Memorial Stadium’s concession stands, including adding coolers for alcohol. The contract with Aramark is expected to generate an annual commission of $5.8 million for UNL.
Nebraska Athletic Director Troy Dannen noted that Aramark will play a crucial role in developing a plan for alcohol sales at Husker football games, citing the provider’s expertise in similar transitions at other colleges. Contracts with vendors like Runza will transfer to Aramark, while Valentino’s, which was in the final year of its contract with the university, will need to negotiate a new agreement through Aramark.
This decision reflects a strategic move by the university to enhance the fan experience at sporting events and increase revenue through concessions. The partnership with Aramark is expected to bring a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to the concessions operations, benefiting both the university and fans alike. With the approval of this new provider, Husker sporting events are poised to offer a more diverse and modern range of food and beverage options to attendees.
