A potential lifeline for the embattled Gretna good life district has emerged with a new multimillion-dollar retail and entertainment project presented to the Gretna City Council by Drew Snyder of Woodsonia Real Estate. The project includes a 15,000-seat outdoor concert amphitheater and a multisport facility, among other signature features. The aim is to keep the 2,000-acre district alive and preserve state financial incentives for the creation of a unique destination.
The future of the Gretna district, the largest of its kind in Nebraska, has been uncertain since businessman Rod Yates requested to terminate his state-approved application for the project site. The city and other developers have until Feb. 12 to prove the viability of a transformational project at the site to prevent the dissolution of the designation.
Snyder’s proposed project includes an amphitheater, housing, a golf course, a hotel, a retail campus, and a gas station and travel center, projected to bring in significant revenues and attract millions of visitors annually. The development plan is central to an economic study the city will submit to retain the district’s distinction.
Yates, who still aims to develop a sports-focused campus in the district, has a revised plan that would not require approval from the City of Gretna. Multiple developers are welcome in the district, according to Gretna Mayor Mike Evans, who hopes for cooperation and progress in revitalizing the area. If approved by the Department of Economic Development, Snyder’s project could bring major economic benefits to the region and revitalize the Gretna district.
