Over 1,000 EPA employees face immediate dismissal

The Trump administration has notified more than 1,000 employees at the Environmental Protection Agency that they could be dismissed immediately. Workers who have been at the agency for less than a year received an email stating that they could be terminated immediately due to being on probation. Union representatives expressed concern and said the message was scary for many recipients. The email comes as part of a push by the administration to downsize the government, offering federal employees buyouts and seeking to close programs.

The president of the American Federation of Government Employees Council 238 stated that no probationary employee has been let go yet, but was inundated with questions from concerned employees. The union has pledged to ensure that any terminations are justified and follow the correct process. There are also concerns about the accuracy of the list of employees targeted for cuts, with some employees with more than a year of service receiving the email in error.

EPA spokesperson Molly Vaseliou said that the agency is implementing President Trump’s executive orders to create a more efficient government. However, questions remain about how many employees will be let go and whether they will have the right to appeal. Overall, the email has created a sense of uncertainty and fear among EPA employees as they navigate potential job cuts during a time of transition between administrations.
