Certification of Results for Nebraska’s 2024 General Election by the Nebraska Examiner

Nebraska’s state constitutional officers, led by Governor Jim Pillen and Secretary of State Bob Evnen, have officially certified the November 2024 general election, including the approval of five ballot measures. The State Canvassing Board unanimously accepted the election results, with only one race heading to an automatic recount. The certification will usher in new state laws and constitutional amendments, including measures related to abortion, education scholarships, medical cannabis, and paid sick leave.

Despite a few reported problems during the election cycle, Nebraska election officials praised the exemplary work of election officials and voters in completing the first general election with voter ID requirements. The state’s Elections Division closely monitored the process, ensuring that ballots were accurately counted and secure. While some issues were reported in certain counties, efforts were made to rectify any discrepancies and ensure every voter had the opportunity to cast their ballot.

The process of auditing 10% of precincts statewide further confirmed the accuracy of the vote count, with only a few discrepancies reported due to voter error. The Canvassing Board will conduct an automatic recount for the Dawson Public Power District race, which had a printing error on the ballot. All candidates involved have been notified, and the recount is set to take place in six affected counties.

Overall, Nebraska election officials expressed gratitude for the hard work of county officials and voters in ensuring a smooth and fair election process. The results of the certification will have a significant impact on the implementation of new state laws and constitutional amendments, reflecting the will of the voters in the 2024 general election.
