The University Libraries at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln have recently launched a new research data repository called SANDY: Stewarding Nebraska Data. This system will allow researchers at the university to deposit their data for easy access and sharing. The name SANDY is inspired by the Sandhills of Nebraska, a region that showcases the impacts of responsible stewardship of resources.
The repository is one of the first outcomes of the Comprehensive Research Data Strategy Task Force and adheres to the FAIR data ecosystem standard. It will provide researchers with statistics on their data sets, persistent identifiers for easy citation, and a platform for sharing and accessing research data generated in Nebraska.
The launch of SANDY represents a significant collaboration between the University Libraries, the Office of Research and Innovation, and UNL faculty. The system will also create a connection between data librarians and researchers, ensuring that deposited data is organized and easily accessible to the public.
University officials are excited about how SANDY will advance Nebraska research and align with federal research funding agencies on the importance of sharing data. Researchers are encouraged to learn more about data management and the research workshops offered by the University Libraries online.
