Nebraska Medicine officially opened the $52 million Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in Kearney, NE after two years of planning. The 54,000 square foot center, located near University Village, will offer services including medical oncology, radiation oncology, lab, pharmacy, infusion, survivorship programs, genetics counseling, and a healing garden. Nebraska has one of the highest cancer incident rates, so the center aims to provide additional clinical trials, screenings, and prevention efforts to combat the rise of cancer in the region.
The new facility will also offer radiation oncology services, wig fittings, and massage therapy to better serve patients. Dr. Cynthia M. Lewis expressed excitement about the growth of their partnership with Heartland Hematology and Oncology, as well as the addition of a survivorship program.
Jenny Brown, a clinical manager at Nebraska Medicine, emphasized the importance of providing local oncology services to patients in Central Nebraska without having to travel to Omaha. The new facility aims to offer high-quality care and support to cancer patients every step of the way.
