Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska, will be home to a new 95th Wing, as confirmed by the Air Force recently. The creation of this new command structure, scheduled to be fully operational by 2027, will see an increase of about 70 personnel at Offutt by 2025. The wing will incorporate active duty elements of the 595th Command & Control Group, reserves from the 610th Command and Control Squadron, and missile-command Air National Guard units from Warren Air Force Base.
Nebraska’s congressional delegation, including U.S. Sens. Deb Fischer and Pete Ricketts and U.S. Reps. Don Bacon, Mike Flood, and Adrian Smith, expressed their satisfaction with the decision, emphasizing the strategic importance of Offutt Air Force Base in America’s national defense. Fischer, in particular, highlighted the role of Offutt as the “center of gravity” for nuclear command and control functions, while other members of the delegation praised the economic significance of the base in Nebraska.
Colonel David Beaumont, the provisional commander of the 95th Wing, emphasized the importance of centralizing the three units under a single chain of command. The delegation credited the collaborative efforts of state and local governments, Nebraska business leaders, and current and former members of Congress for securing the future of Offutt Air Force Base.
Overall, the establishment of the 95th Wing represents the culmination of years of hard work and highlights Offutt’s critical role in America’s strategic deterrence. The decision has been welcomed by all parties involved, with expectations for the base to continue meeting the increasing demands for command and control in the evolving global security environment.
