Nebraska’s 2024 general election results officially certified | Latest News

Nebraska’s state constitutional officers have certified the November 2024 general election results, approving five ballot measures. The State Canvassing Board unanimously accepted the results with one recount scheduled for a Dawson Public Power District seat. The board consists of Gov. Jim Pillen, Secretary of State Bob Evnen, Attorney General Mike Hilgers, State Treasurer Tom Briese, and State Auditor Mike Foley.

The certification will implement new state laws and a constitutional amendment within the next 10 days. These include measures such as prohibiting most abortions after the first trimester, repealing a law regarding education scholarships to private schools, allowing possession of medical cannabis, and regulating medical cannabis through a new commission.

Despite a few reported problems during the election cycle, the state election officials have successfully handled the process. Three issues were reported, with only one potentially affecting the outcome of a race. An automatic recount is scheduled for the Dawson Public Power District race due to a printing error on the ballot.

Overall, the state officials expressed gratitude for the hard work of election officials and voters in ensuring a smooth election process despite challenges. The manual hand count of ballots for 10% of precincts statewide showed minimal discrepancies, showcasing the accuracy and security of the voting system. The recount for the affected race will be conducted in different counties, with the Canvassing Board set to finalize the results next week. Candidates can observe the process, and losing candidates have the option to file an election contest if needed.
