The 2025 Nebraska Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest has been launched, inviting third-grade students from public, private, and home schools to participate. Sponsored by multiple emergency management agencies, the contest aims to educate students about severe weather hazards in Nebraska. While tornadoes are a common theme, students can also focus on lightning and flooding. Winners can receive gift cards up to $125, in addition to being recognized at the Nebraska State Capitol by Governor Jim Pillen. Entries must be submitted by February 7th, 2025, and follow specific guidelines regarding size, theme, and materials used. Teachers are encouraged to help students select their top entries for submission. For more information, interested parties can contact the local emergency management director or visit the Nebraska Association of Emergency Management or Nebraska Emergency Management Agency websites. With judges from various emergency management agencies, the contest provides a platform for young students to showcase their creativity while spreading awareness about severe weather safety.
