In an eventful week for college football, the Kentucky Wildcats received a surprise as wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts Jr. announced his departure after just one season to join the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Shorts, known as one of the top young wide receivers coaches in the FBS, will reunite with his former coach Dana Holgorsen at Nebraska.
Holgorsen recently joined Nebraska as the new play-caller, and he wasted no time in bringing in Shorts, who played for him at West Virginia and worked under him at Houston. Shorts’ departure leaves Kentucky looking for their seventh wide receivers coach in 13 years under head coach Mark Stoops.
During his time at Kentucky, Shorts worked with an offense that struggled, finishing the season ranked low in yards per play and points per drive. Despite the challenges, Shorts is now looking forward to a fresh start at Nebraska.
As the Wildcats prepare for the early signing period, they will soon begin their search for a new wide receivers coach.
