Details Released for Capitol Tree Lighting and Hometown Christmas Event


Governor Jim Pillen and First Lady Suzanne are hosting two holiday events on December 8 in Lincoln, NE. The first event is the 76th annual lighting of the State Christmas Tree in the Capitol Rotunda at 1:30 p.m. This event will feature performances by various groups including choirs and the Nebraska National Guard band. Governor Pillen will deliver a holiday message before lighting the Christmas tree. The tree will be on display at the Capitol until December 29.

Following the tree lighting, the Hometown Christmas celebration will take place at the Governor’s Residence, featuring music, choir performances, Mr. & Mrs. Claus, a live nativity scene, and various activities for families. The outdoor event will run from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly for the weather.

Throughout the holiday season, guided tours of the State Capitol are available hourly from Monday to Friday and on weekends, except for Christmas and New Year’s Day. For more information about visiting the Capitol, contact the Tour Office at (402) 471-0448.
