Rescheduled dates announced for Isle of Man school science and technology event

A science and technology festival for primary school children, known as STEMFest, which was postponed last month due to bus driver shortages, has been rescheduled for March. The event, organized by the Department for Enterprise, will take place on 26 and 27 March at the Villa Marina.

Minister Tim Johnston stated that the new date will allow enough time to arrange logistical and industry support for the event, which aims to spark students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics subjects. The festival, first held in 2018, sees various organizations showcasing exhibits about their sectors to primary school students.

Despite the challenges faced in organizing transportation for about 800 pupils, the department was determined to ensure that no year group misses out on attending this highlight event in each school’s learning calendar. Primary schools across the island have been informed of the new date and the majority have confirmed their participation.

Johnston emphasized the importance of nurturing a love for STEM subjects early on in students to shape the innovators and problem solvers of tomorrow. By rescheduling the festival, the Department for Enterprise aims to provide an engaging and educational experience for primary school children while promoting interest in science and technology.
