Christine Heller Seaman, a New York woman, has been haunted by the disappearance of her grandparents, Catherine and Charles Romer, for over four decades. The couple went missing in 1980 while traveling home from Miami Beach in their 1978 Lincoln Continental. Law enforcement initially suspected foul play due to Catherine Romer’s valuable jewelry and their abandoned hotel room in Brunswick, Georgia. However, recently, a submerged Lincoln Continental matching the description of their missing car was discovered in a pond in Georgia. Human remains, including a femur, were found in the car, but have not been identified as the Romers. Personal belongings such as jewelry and a license plate with their initials were also recovered. The investigation is still ongoing.
Seaman and her family have found some closure with the recent developments, believing that her grandparents may have died in an accident rather than foul play. She recalled fond memories of her grandparents, describing Catherine as the “life of the party” and Charles as a “lovely and generous man.” The family recently celebrated Thanksgiving, reminiscing about their missing relatives in a more positive light. Seaman expressed gratitude towards the investigators and diving team who worked tirelessly to find the submerged car, providing her family with some peace of mind and closure. While positive identifications may take months, the family is hopeful that they will finally have answers to the mystery that has haunted them for decades.
