Charles Kushner appointed as ambassador to France by Trump, following recommendation from Jared Kushner

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he intends to nominate Charles Kushner, a real estate developer and the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Trump praised Charles Kushner as a business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker who will represent the country’s interests well. He also congratulated Kushner’s family on the nomination. Trump highlighted Jared Kushner’s work in his first administration, including his involvement in Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, and the Abraham Accords.

Charles Kushner had previously been sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 after pleading guilty to tax evasion, witness tampering, and making illegal campaign donations. He was prosecuted by Chris Christie, who later became the governor of New Jersey and a vocal opponent of Trump. Christie called the Kushner case one of the most loathsome crimes he had prosecuted.

In 2020, Trump pardoned Charles Kushner along with several others after losing the re-election bid. The decision to nominate Charles Kushner as ambassador to France comes as a surprising development given his past legal troubles and the contentious history between Christie and the Kushner family. Nevertheless, Trump believes that Kushner’s experience and abilities will serve the country well in this diplomatic role.
