A Thanksgiving Day storm on the East Coast has created travel woes for thousands of travelers still on their journeys. A dynamic mid-latitude cyclone brought heavy snow to the interior Northeast, with over a foot possible in some areas. Winter storm warnings are in effect for parts of New England. By Thursday night, Denver and Newark airports had mostly recovered from earlier delays caused by the storm. Record numbers of travelers are expected to drive for the holiday, leading to packed roads and highways. Lake effect snow alerts are in effect through Sunday in areas downwind of lakes Ontario and Erie. The coldest air of the season is on the way, with Siberian air bringing frigid temperatures to swaths of the country, including temperatures below freezing overnight all the way to the Gulf Coast. Sunday is expected to be the busiest day for travel, with 3 million people expected to pass through TSA checkpoints. Costello of NBC News advises that the worst times to drive back home will be Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. Overall, travelers already at their destinations have much to be grateful for, while those still in transit are facing a challenging journey due to the weather conditions.
