The late Perry principal, Dan Marburger, will be honored as this year’s Iowa Hero at the annual Iowa-Nebraska “Heroes Game.” Marburger was tragically shot and killed by a student at Perry High School in January while trying to protect students during a shooting. He has been praised as a hero for his selfless actions during the incident.
The selection of Marburger as this year’s hero was a collaborative decision between Pioneer, the game’s title sponsor, and the University of Iowa. The university received numerous recommendations from individuals in the community to honor Marburger at the game.
Marburger’s wife, Elizabeth, shared that he was a dedicated fan of Iowa Football and would have been thrilled to be recognized at the game. The 14th annual matchup between the Big Ten Conference rivals will take place on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
The event aims to commemorate Marburger’s bravery and sacrifice while highlighting the importance of honoring local heroes in the community.
