The Nebraska Sports Council and Grand Island Tourism have announced that shooting sports will now be held at Heartland Shooting Park in Grand Island. With officials from various organizations across the state present, including the Nebraska State Fair and Grand Island’s Mayor Roger Steele, they discussed how the move to Heartland Shooting Park will benefit the games, expecting the 750 participants annually to increase due to the park’s amenities.
Heartland Shooting Park manager Tom Busch mentioned plans to add new events, such as intentional bunker, to enhance the shooting experience. He stated that they will be adding more active shooting games based on participant feedback.
Dave Mlnarik, president of Nebraska Sports Council, emphasized the mission of providing a healthy and active lifestyle through competitive events. Moving the games to Grand Island is expected to boost the local economy, with past hosts bringing in $5 million annually.
The 41st anniversary of the Cornhusker State Games is scheduled for July 10-20, 2025, with registration opening in January. This move to Heartland Shooting Park is seen as a positive step towards encouraging more people to participate in healthy and competitive events, benefiting both the local community and participants.
