President Joe Biden has indicated that he is in discussions regarding possible Israeli strikes on Iranian oil facilities in response to Tehran’s missile attack. Biden’s comments led to a spike in oil prices, with WTI rising by up to 5% and Brent rising around four percent. The World Health Organization’s director general reported that at least 28 healthcare workers have been killed in Lebanon in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of casualties since the start of Israeli attacks to nearly 2,000 deaths and over 9,000 injuries.
The Lebanese health minister stated that over 40 rescuers and firefighters have been killed in Israeli attacks over the past three days. Additionally, Hezbollah claimed to have repelled an attempt by Israeli forces to enter Lebanon at the Fatima Gate. The Lebanese army retaliated against Israeli forces for killing one of its soldiers for the first time, marking a new development in the conflict.
Spain has evacuated 400-500 of its citizens from Lebanon, while Emirates Airlines has canceled flights to Iraq, Iran, and Jordan due to regional unrest caused by Israel’s invasion of Lebanon. The UN health agency was unable to deliver medical supplies to Lebanon due to flight restrictions. Despite Biden’s call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, an Iranian source has indicated that the phase of unilateral self-restraint has ended and any Israeli attack will be met with an unconventional response. France has criticized Israel’s declaration of the UN secretary-general as persona non grata, calling it unjustified.
