Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson is currently being treated for burns following an incident at a campaign event in Mt. Airy. This incident comes just days after a CNN report alleged that Robinson made antisemitic and racist comments on a porn website years ago. In response, four top staff members of Robinson’s campaign resigned, though the campaign did not directly connect the departures to the report. Despite concerns from some Republicans, Robinson has denied the allegations and remained defiant.
The Harris campaign has tried to link Robinson to former President Donald Trump, who endorsed him before the CNN report was released, in hopes of using the controversy to help Democrats win the state. Trump narrowly won North Carolina in 2020, and Republicans have acknowledged the state’s importance in future elections.
Robinson’s communications director confirmed his hospitalization and stated that he is in good spirits. The campaign is moving forward despite the incident and the allegations made in the CNN report.
