A doorbell camera in Cedar Key, Florida, captured the storm surge from Hurricane Helene before being submerged by floodwater. In Georgia, a firefighter was killed by a falling tree in Pierce County, with details still under investigation. Strong waves are battering downtown Charleston as Helene moves north, causing buildings to be hit by the storm. Various hurricane and tropical storm warnings in Florida have been lifted or downgraded as Helene moves north across Georgia. More than 2 million people are without power in the southeastern US due to the storm. Georgia is experiencing a “dangerous and life-threatening situation” according to the National Hurricane Center, with high winds and heavy rain. Although Tallahassee avoided the worst of Hurricane Helene as the storm weakened to a Category 1, it still poses a significant threat across multiple states. Residents are urged to continue sheltering and staying away from windows in affected areas.
