Suspect in Alleged Plot to Assassinate Trump Leaves Note Outlining Plan | Donald Trump Update

Florida prosecutors are planning to request that Ryan Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, remain detained as his case moves forward. Routh left a note indicating his intention to kill Trump and had a list of dates and venues where Trump was expected to appear. The Justice Department argues that Routh poses a threat to public safety and had a premeditated plan to kill Trump, which was discovered when a Secret Service agent spotted a rifle near the golf course where Trump was playing.

Routh left behind a note addressed to the world admitting his failed attempt to assassinate Trump and offering $150,000 to whoever completes the job. Evidence from phone records shows that Routh traveled from North Carolina to Florida in August and was near the golf club and Trump’s residence multiple times before his arrest. He was apprehended after the Secret Service agent fired at him when he aimed a semiautomatic rifle.

Authorities found six phones in Routh’s car, including one with a Google search on traveling to Mexico, as well as a notebook criticizing foreign governments and notes on how to join the war on behalf of Ukraine. Routh also authored a book last year criticizing Trump’s foreign policy, saying Iran was justified in assassinating him. Routh faces charges of illegal gun possession and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number, although more serious charges may follow. His attorney has not commented on the case.
