Man claiming to be manager says Janet Jackson’s ‘apology’ for Kamala Harris remarks not authorized

Singer Janet Jackson was wrongly accused of apologizing for spreading misinformation about Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity. A man named Mo Elmasri, claiming to be Jackson’s manager, made the statement without authorization. Jackson had mistakenly stated in an interview that she had heard Harris was Indian, not Black, despite Harris having a Jamaican father and Indian mother. The backlash was swift, with some criticizing Jackson for being irresponsible and spreading false information. Elmasri later stated that Jackson apologized for any confusion caused and respected Harris’ dual heritage. However, he was subsequently fired as Jackson’s representative due to disagreements over her comments. Jackson’s brother, Randy, is her only manager. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has also attacked Harris’ mixed-race identity, claiming he had never known her to be Black until recently. Harris has long embraced her Black heritage, attending Howard University and being a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. Despite the controversy, Harris remains proud of her background and has continued to promote both her Black and Indian roots throughout her career.
