Ryan Routh, the 58-year-old man accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump at his Florida golf course, has been ordered to remain in jail without bond as he awaits trial on two gun-related charges. Prosecutors are seeking to charge Routh with attempting to assassinate a major political candidate, and a court filing revealed that he left behind a note acknowledging his intention to kill the former president.
Meanwhile, in Nebraska, efforts by Donald Trump and his allies to change the state’s rules for allocating electoral votes to benefit Trump have faltered, with key lawmaker Mike McDonnell rejecting the campaign. McDonnell stated that it was not the moment to make this change so close to the election.
In response to the assassination attempt, Trump accused the Justice Department and FBI of mishandling the case and downplaying the seriousness of the situation. He called for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to take the lead in the investigation, suggesting that Florida charges would be more serious than the FBI’s.
The day also saw Joe Biden announcing plans for his final months in office, focusing on executing the rest of his agenda, combatting gun violence, and addressing the climate crisis. Additionally, Kamala Harris has received endorsements from over 700 former military and national security officials, who believe she is a more effective leader than Trump.
