Sen. JD Vance commented on the allegations against North Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson, saying that allegations aren’t necessarily reality. Robinson allegedly made controversial comments on a porn website, but has denied the report and plans to stay in the race. Although some in his own party have expressed concern, the North Carolina Republican Party reiterated its support for Robinson. Vance stated that it is up to Robinson and North Carolina voters to decide his fate. Vance also mentioned that his ticket does not have plans to campaign with Robinson.
Former President Trump has not withdrawn his endorsement of Robinson, calling him “Martin Luther King on steroids.” North Carolina is a crucial state for Republicans, and polls show a tight race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. In the gubernatorial contest, Robinson is polling behind his Democratic opponent, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein. Vance’s comments suggest that the situation surrounding Robinson should be allowed to play out in the court of public opinion. Despite the controversy, Robinson remains in the race for governor and will continue to make his case to voters.
